Representative Islands Platform for Resources, Ecology and Sustainable Development

典型海岛资源生态与可持续发展平台网站由自然资源部海岛研究中心、河海大学海岸灾害及防护教育部重点实验室、中国海洋发展基金会与全球合作伙伴共同发起，旨在依托平台通过基于资源、生态等的创新实践促进海岛地区的可持续发展。

Brief Introduction

Developed by Island Research Center, MNR (IRC); Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Coastal Disaster and Protection, Hohai University (KLCDP); China Oceanic Development Foundation (CODF) and cooperative partners all around the world, the website-Representative Islands Platform for Resources, Ecology and Sustainable Development (RIPRESD) holds the vision to uphold and step up sustainable development for island regions through innovative practices based on resources, ecology, and more.

RIPRESD is a major new Academy platform that aims to promote sustainable development for island regions and collect innovative (or best) practices in island governance by 2030 while implementing the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs, and benefiting local islanders and shape sustainable island communities of the future.

A number of islands, particularly smaller ones, have fragile ecosystems, few natural resources, and a relatively low level of socioeconomic development. Additionally, they are heavily dependent on marine resources, external support, as well as global problems such as climate change. Sustainable development continues to be a challenge issue. Moreover, we should also remember that islands serve as sentinels of change, encouraging action for the future of our planet.

Given the inherent vulnerability and challenges of islands, the Representative Islands Platform for Resources, Ecology and Sustainable Development (RIPRESD) plans to invite global experts to discuss problems, challenges, models, practices, and experiences associated with sustainable development on islands. Within the next few years, we would like to invite experts from relevant disciplines to form working groups on island sustainable development, focusing on the following areas:

First, conducting joint research in island regions of different countries on resource development and utilization, protection and restoration, and sustainable development.

Second, co-compiling and publishing examples or practices of sustainable development in the Pacific region of islands.

Finally, disseminating best practices and knowledge on sustainable island development through training courses, seminars, and other means.

All experts in the promotion of island sustainable development are welcome to join us.
